AI Agent
AI Agents are AI entities that independently perceive their surroundings and take actions to accomplish designated objectives, operating similarly to live agents. They can exhibit reactive, proactive, or predictive behaviors, executing tasks that necessitate human-like intelligence. For instance, an AI Agent functioning as a dental secretary could manage appointment scheduling, dispatch reminders, oversee patient records, and respond to frequently asked questions, allowing staff to focus on more complex responsibilities. Typically, AI agents are trained using a knowledge base, which is a large, all-encompassing historical data set. With that context, the AI agent can draw on past experiences and statistics to better inform its decision-making processes.
AI Agents are distinct from other forms of artificial intelligence due to their autonomy and goal-directed actions. Unlike conversational and generative AI, which are more versatile, AI agents are tailored for specific functions. The limitations and guardrails set by making the technology less versatile is what makes their output more accurate. They integrate perception and action capabilities as integral components of machine learning models. Although chatbots may be included within an AI Agent, they frequently lack the adaptability characteristic of agents. In contrast to expert systems operating on predefined rules, AI agents can learn and adapt autonomously. This capacity for independent perception, reasoning, and action sets them apart from more passive AI tools.
