Welcome to another edition of IntelePeer’s Tech Tuesday series. This week Jade Harris, communications platform as a service (CPaaS) Customer Success Manager, tells us how she found her niche in tech, how AI will help her plan vacations, and reminds us to keep learning.

1. What first got you interested in working in technology?

I first became interested in working in technology when my father introduced me to the world of computer networking. I had just moved back to the United States from Thailand, and I was looking for a career change. He helped me to become a Cisco-Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

Years later, after I finished graduate school, I pivoted to work with tech startups. When I finished my degree, it was at the height of the pandemic. There were subsequent hiring freezes in my field of study, International Business. So, when the opportunity to work for an Australian software as a service tech startup came to me, I already felt comfortable with the idea of working in tech.

2. What AI or machine learning capabilities are you most looking forward to?

As an avid traveler, I’m most looking forward to the use of AI and machine learning in the travel industry. I recently read about a Korean startup that will use these tools to optimize the online hotel booking process to find the best personalized deals for travelers at no cost.

3. What was the most challenging aspect of your career and how did you overcome it?

The most challenging aspect of my career has been finding my niche. I have many different skills and interests, which initially made it difficult to narrow down the direction I might choose. Then, starting with getting CCNA certified, I became open to the idea of tech.

4. Any advice for women who want to join the tech industry?

My advice would be to find an aspect in the tech world that really interests you and be open to constantly learning new things and developing new skills. My favorite thing about working in tech is how things are always changing, improving, and adapting to people’s needs. Technology is involved in almost every aspect of our lives. So, no matter what a person’s interest is, they can find a job in tech that they love.

5. What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting in the workforce?

I would tell my younger self not to worry so much about the future. It’s not necessary to stress about choosing the “right” career moves. Choosing the ideal career for you is not a linear path, but that’s ok.

Bonus: What podcast are you currently listening to?

I absolutely love listening to Ted Talks about technology, health and wellness, and the ever-changing landscape of NFTs and cryptocurrency.
