Welcome to another edition of IntelePeer’s Tech Tuesday series. This week Kenyon Hesker, Partner Marketing Specialist, replies to our questions with valuable insight and great advice.
1. What first got you interested in working in technology?
I have always been drawn to the Tech Industry as an ever-evolving space with unlimited possibilities. In seeing how much technology has evolved throughout recent years, I have really come to understand it as one of the most important parts of our everyday lives.
After graduating college last year, I came across an internship opportunity at IntelePeer. It seemed like the perfect fit. I was eager to join the industry that I was passionate about while kick-starting my career with a company that is doing so much to impact the future of communication in such a positive way.
2. What AI or machine learning capabilities are you most looking forward to?
Every year, thousands of hospital patients die from preventable human error. AI can help to reduce this tragedy, saving lives and creating a more reliable patient experience.
The potential for AI in the healthcare industry is incredible. I look forward to seeing how it continues to transform this industry with technology that can assist in surgeries, diagnose diseases sooner and with more accuracy, aid cancer research, and so much more.
3. What was the most challenging aspect of your career and how did you overcome it?
The most challenging aspect of my career up to this point has been getting started. The world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the time when I was beginning to explore options for life after getting my degree. As businesses were closing and the workforce was scaling back, these opportunities became more scarce.
I used my time to focus on differentiating myself by fine-tuning my resume, practicing interview skills, and getting certified in new areas. The idea was to use this setback as an opportunity to work on my professional development in other areas instead.
4. Any advice for women who want to join the Tech Industry?
My advice for women wanting to join the Tech Industry is to always be adaptable to change and passionate about your work.
5. What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting in the workforce?
Never stop learning and do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. It’s particularly important early in your career to become a sponge for knowledge and soak in as much information as you can. Even if you sometimes feel like you’re asking silly questions, your coworkers are there for you as a resource and are working side by side with you to reach a common goal.
