Tech Tuesday: Janet Turman, Sr. Director of Revenue and Sales Operations

1. How did you end up in the Tech Industry?

I was born in Las Vegas, NV and started my career in the hospitality and gaming industry. I experienced implementing a CRM system for casino VIP customers firsthand. While at the casino, we moved from an on-premise solution to a cloud-based platform which transformed how information was shared across properties.

I saw the benefits of moving to the cloud, and how technology companies were revolutionizing how they conducted business. IntelePeer presented a forward-thinking CPaaS offering, and I wanted to be part of a company that would pioneer how businesses transformed the way they communicated to their customers. I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of.

2. What technology do you use the most – whether in your personal or professional life?

The technology I use the most – which is not a surprise – is my smart phone. Just when I think there cannot be anything else to add and enhance my engagement with my phone, another tool or application piques my interest.

For example, Apple Wallet. It’s a safe and secure way for contactless payments or for storing my boarding pass or vaccine card. I also enjoy listening to podcasts, something that I came across on my phone. I love technology and how it can transform and facilitate actions we do in our daily lives.

3. What was the most challenging aspect of your career and how did you overcome it?

One of the most challenging but exciting aspects of my role is keeping up to date with the innovations in our tech stack and new tools in the market that drive more efficiency and ultimately revenue. What helps me stay current is listening to podcasts that are relevant to my role, highlight technology, or follow industry experts that provide insight.

4. Any advice for women who want to join the tech industry?

Research the type of industry or company that you would like to be a part of. The tech industry is so broad, and I would recommend narrowing down the industry that you have passion for or that excites you. I joined IntelePeer because I was drawn to communications, and I wanted to be part of a company that was an agent of change in how businesses communicate to their customers.

5. What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting in the workforce?

The advice to my younger self would be to apply to companies that you feel passionate about. Take the time to research and ensure it has a good culture. A great company will help you to grow in your career.
